Kids give you the most honest feedback. My manager has two kids and they’ve come to all the premieres. So I asked, “Who’s your favorite, Captain America or Thor?” He goes, [putting on a boyish, American accent], “Well, you know, I’d give them both five stars.” He’s like, six years-old. I said, “What do you mean five stars? Both of them?” I thought because I knew him, I’d have the upper hand. But kids are smart. And we both got a good score. [Laughs]

The rights are tied up elsewhere, but I always felt that a Kitty Pryde movie would be awfully fun. What a shock!

Artist’s Note: The Avengers take on the classic Mega Man enemy, Gutsman…with ease. Nick Fury finds the utter devastation a little too much to handle, so Black Widow keeps him calm.

Mark Ruffalo was talking about making the mistake of going online and reading things from the fanboys. But the negative things seem to get the most attention and even when they’re in the minority. The first thing I did was jump online. You kind of can’t help it. You scroll down to the comments and it’s much easier to be negative about something than it is to be positive. But, thankfully, since these films have come out, they’ve received a great response and it’s been mostly positive.

Chris Hemsworth on fan complaints.

Let’s say the 12-year-old Joss Whedon has just found out he’s going to direct an “Avengers movie,” which character would he be most excited to work with?

Moon Dragon! Or the Beast. Because when I was 12, the Beast was actually one of the Avengers. That’s absurd, that’s a terrible answer.

Never change Joss…

The Avengers has already grossed over 200 million dollars overseas, and is on track to make an insane amount of money when it opens in the US this weekend. When you go see it, why not take a portion of your ticket price and help us open a pop-up Jack Kirby gallery in the neighborhood where he was born?
You can read our detailed appeal for funding here.
We’ve got plenty of original Jack artwork to hang on the walls, not to mention other artifacts from Jack’s life. The more money we raise now, the more we can do, and the longer we’ll be able to keep the doors open! We’d like to be more than just a gallery, though. We’ll have lectures from comics pros, host or sponsor art lessons for kids, and work with other local NYC historical organizations to educate folks about what it was like growing up in Jack’s neighborhood during the depression.
We’ve been fundraising for the gallery since September, but we haven’t yet reached our goal. We’ve got a few announcements to make in the coming months that should help us get there, and with any luck, and if folks help us get the word out, we’ll be open by the end of the year. Every little bit helps, and if you can’t donate, please help us spread the word!
By the way, how cool is this Jack self-portrait? My reliable sources tell me it was inked by Mike Royer and colored by Tom Ziuko! I believe this version of it appeared in the Jack Kirby Collector around 1997…

Whether you already loved “The Avengers” comics or discovered them with the movie, you should help give back to the artists that made it possible.

So what would happen if you pitted the Joker versus Loki?
Well, it’s not going to end well for whichever city they’re fighting in. Buildings are going to burn. The Joker is a man and Loki is a god, so I’d have to say that Loki would take the Joker down. [Smiles.] To Chinatown.

The hardcore fans — the fanboys, the comic-book geeks — they’re the reason these movies get made. They’re the ones that see it two, three, four times. If we didn’t have that loyal fanbase, I’d be unemployed. So you have to make sure they’re happy, but the way you try and do that is to become a fan. You have to read as many comic books as you can and see the character through their eyes and try to understand what they expect. … going online and checking, everyone’s going to have a different opinion.

Are you and Liam having a little brotherly rivalry over who’s going to have the bigger box office?
Only in the healthy, competitive way that brothers react. Absolutely.
Any wagers placed?
No [Laughs]. Both of us keep scratching our heads and pinching ourselves about this whole experience.

If Woody Allen were directing “The Avengers,” how would he direct a fight between Loki and Thor? [Laughs]. We would do one take and he would say, [affecting a high-pitched, soft-spoken American accent], “Okay, let’s do one more. Maybe a little faster.” How would he change the dialogue? He wouldn’t. But he’d say, [reverting to his shy Woody accent], “Okay, make something up. Maybe make it funny.”

That Time Stan Lee Got Defensive When We Asked About Jack Kirby’s Credit

I wanted to touch upon a more serious subject regarding the release of “The Avengers.” Fans of Jack Kirby are concerned that his name appears nowhere on the credits of “The Avengers.” What’s your take on their concern?
I don’t know how to answer that because in what way would his name appear?

His name isn’t mentioned anywhere in the film production as a co-creator.
Well, it’s mentioned in every comic book; it says “By Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.”

But it doesn’t appear for the film itself, and his fans feel he should get that recognition, with the movie exposing his work to a whole new audience.
I know, but you’re talking to the wrong guy because I have nothing to do with the credits on the movies. I’m credited as one of the executive producers because that’s in my contract. But Jack was not an executive producer. So I don’t know what he’d be credited as. Again, I know nothing about that, I have nothing to do with the movie’s credits. You’d have to talk to whoever is the producer of the movie. Is there anything you want to ask me about the documentary because I thought that’s what I was supposed to be talking about.
