If you were a little kid today, what would you think of Merida and her attitude?
Never mind if I was a little kid. Now, I’m just like hopelessly in love with her.

Disney Princess culture is so dominant that the glorification of these traditional, outdated role models has spawned an entire “anti-princess” movement, with mothers pledging to not allow their daughters to watch the Disney Princess films or get sucked into the profitable merchandising industry that makes princess costumes so ubiquitous at every playdate (and forget about Halloween).
Unlike most of her predecessors, Merida is neither cursed nor orphaned. She doesn’t have an evil stepmother, a fairy godmother, or a maniacal enemy plotting her downfall. Like most teenagers, she has a fundamental difference of opinion with her mother about what she should and should not be able to do.

Trailer: Pixar’s Monsters University - June 21
Directed by Dan Scanlon, with the voices of Billy Crystal, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Ken Jeong, Kelsey Grammer, Rob Riggle, and Julia Sweeney.
While Pixar’s track record with sequels is inconsistent, one could argue that the source material here is a lot better than it was for ‘Cars 2’. ‘Monsters University’, on the other hand, is a prequel which leads to its own set of issues (in that we already know how the story ends). The spot itself is clever and funny though, so there’s no reason to doubt this will be a success.
Oh, and one more thing: Crystal reportedly gave them so much material that they cut 4 versions of the trailer, so click through to the source link if you want to watch them all.
