The Trailer for Oscar Contender ‘Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close’ Will Probably Make You Cry

Peek behind the Moviefone HQ curtain: your trusty editors were just discussing what 2011 film will emerge as the Best Picture frontrunner moments ago! Will it be the George Clooney-led family drama ‘The Descendants’? Perhaps ‘The Artist,’ with backing from Harvey Weinstein? Maybe presumed Oscar-bait ‘War Horse’ from director Steven Spielberg? Or could it be ‘Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close,’ director Stephen Daldry’s adaptation of the best-selling book by Jonathan Safran Foer? Until these films screen the answer will remain elusive but one thing is clear: based on its just-released trailer, ‘Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close,’ is poised to make a huge Oscar run. Harvey, George, Steven: you’ve got company.

“The romantic comedy, which Hanks also directed and co-wrote, cost a reported $30 million to make but earned just $13 million in its first three days of release, debuting in fourth place on the box office chart. That’s one of the weakest openings ever for a film starring either of these two actors, both longtime box office champs.”
